A simple life-saving guide for sudden cardiac arrest emergencies.
What is an AED?
An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is a portable medical device used during sudden cardiac arrest. It analyzes the heart rhythm and, if required, delivers an electric shock to help restore normal heartbeat.
How to Use an AED – Step by Step
1. Check the Person
Ensure the area is safe. Check if the person is unconscious and not breathing normally.
2. Call Emergency Help
Call emergency medical services immediately and ask someone to bring an AED.
3. Turn On the AED
Switch on the AED and follow the voice and visual instructions given by the device.
4. Attach the Pads
Place AED pads on the bare chest as shown in the diagram on the pads.
5. Let AED Analyze
Make sure no one touches the patient while the AED checks the heart rhythm.
6. Shock if Advised
If the AED advises a shock, press the shock button and continue CPR as instructed.
Why AEDs Are Important
- Easy to use with voice and visual prompts.
- Useful in schools, offices, malls, gyms, airports, and public places.
- Can improve survival chances when used quickly during sudden cardiac arrest.
